EU Court Cuts fine on Shell for Dutch bitumen cartel to EUR81 Million

A European Court Thursday cut to 81 million euros ($104.3 million) a fine the European Union's executive body had charged on energy giant Royal Dutch Shell PLC (RDSA.LN) for participating in a bitumen cartel in the Netherlands.

The General Court, Europe's second highest, reduced the fine from EUR108 million because the European Commission, which had originally imposed the fine, didn't provide enough evidence that Shell was the leader of the cartel, the court said.
